Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of the church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to abstain from the sale of and use of any drugs unless prescribed by a physician; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.

Poplar Hill Missionary Baptist Church History

Poplar Hill Baptist Church was believed to be organized shortly after the slaves were freed. In 1865. T here are no written records to verify this, but information handed down thru generations placed Poplar Hill’s beginning the late 1860’s or early 1870’s.  However records are only available to verify Poplar Hill’s existence from 1883 to the present.

It was not long after the official organization of Poplar Hill that a little wooden structure took shape to house the old “God Fearing Christianswho began to nurture our love of God. The name was Poplarcame from the trees on the property.

In 1996 God sent us Rev. Avery Headd, a leader who’s steps are ordered by the Lord, with enthusiasm for doing God’s work, his untiring steps to complete the vision of God has given him and his love for his fellow man, we have been inspired, revitalized and edified to order our steps in the Word, thus building God’s kingdom here on earth.

All of these things were done so the Body of Christ can give each person a taste of the 1st Century Church in this 21st Century. A place for the broken, interdependent, imperfect, teachable, forgetful, troubled and lost people will find a place to worship God in spirit and in truth, Towards these endeavors, may we continue Amen.

The Poplar Hill Baptist Church Family

We take very seriously our belief and relationship with God, His only begotten son Jesus, The Christ our Savior, and the Great Comforter, the Holy Spirit. We do solemnly believe that the bible is the inerrant Word of God as written by inspired men of our Father (2 Timothy 3:16-17). We believe in the birth, death, and resurrection of  Jesus Christ and through His death, He became the ultimate sacrifice for the believer, that through his shed blood, we are justified by faith(2 Cor. 5:21, 1 Peter 1:18-19).
